Deck
Deckhands
As a Deckhand at Hullo, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests while contributing to the smooth operation of our vessels. Your responsibilities include maintaining safety equipment, assisting with navigation and emergency duties, handling lines, performing vessel upkeep, supporting food service, and providing friendly guest interactions both onboard and in terminals.
Required Certification (All Certificates must be valid):
- Domestic Vessel Safety (DVS), Basic Safety Training (BST) or STCW MEDS
- Seafarer’s Medical
- Candidates must have the right to live and work in Canada
Quartermasters
As a Quartermaster, you’ll work on deck handling safety equipment, lines, and emergency duties, while overseeing the rescue boat and steering the vessel. You’ll assist on the bridge, maintain the deck and ship’s cleanliness, serve food, and engage with guests both onboard and at terminals. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on role for those seeking a rewarding and dynamic career.
Required Certification (all certificates must be valid):
- Bridge Watch Rating Certificate (BWR)
- Domestic Vessel Safety (DVS), Basic Safety Training (BST) or STCW MEDS
- Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC)
- Radio Operators Certificate (ROC-MC)
- Seafarer’s Medical
- Candidates must have the right to live and work in Canada
Mates
We entrust our Mates with the crucial role of being the vessel’s second in command, responsible for a range of duties including crew training, emergency response, updating bridge equipment, serving as the ship’s safety officer, overseeing deck maintenance, and ensuring exceptional guest service onboard.
Required Certification (All Certificates must be valid):
- Transport Canada WKM- Near Coastal or higher marine certificate
- Seafarers Medical (Canadian)
- Candidates must have the right to live and work in Canada
Captains
Our Captains lead their crew in providing a reliable, efficient, and friendly service while also working to proactively identify opportunities to improve the company’s service standards and performance. This is an exciting and fast-paced opportunity for ambitious, experienced captains who will have a meaningful voice in designing and optimizing our service, directly impacting on the success of the company and its culture.
Required Certification (all certificates must be valid):
- Transport Canada Master 3000 Gross Tonnage TC certification or equivalent
- Reciprocal Agreement Candidates are encouraged to apply (Certifications from UK, Ukraine, Philippines and Ireland)

Engineering
Marine Maintenance Worker
Our Marine & Fleet Maintenance team oversees the maintenance of vessel machinery and systems on our two high-speed ferries. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the reliability of our vessels and ensure their safe and efficient performance for seamless connection between downtown Vancouver and Nanaimo.

Chief Engineer
Our Engineers prepare vessels for sailing, monitor systems for peak performance, manage bunkering, and drive continuous improvement in operational standards. This is a unique opportunity for experienced engineers to work aboard two brand-new Damen 4212 high-speed ferries, each powered by four engines and equipped with Damen’s award-winning Triton IoT platform for real-time system monitoring. As the sole onboard engineer, you’ll serve as Chief Engineer, responsible for the safe and continuous operation of all engine systems and championing a strong safety culture.
Required Certification (all certificates must be valid):
- Transport Canada STCW 2nd Class or higher marine engineering certificate
- Reciprocal Agreement Candidates STCW 2nd Class or higher (Certifications from UK, Ukraine, Philippines and Ireland)

Terminal & Guest Experience
Guest Experience Agent
Guest Experience Agents play a key role in delivering exceptional service at our Nanaimo and Vancouver terminals. Reporting to the Manager Terminal Operations, they welcome guests with enthusiasm, manage ticketing and check-in, assist with mooring and gangway setup, and ensure safety and cleanliness throughout the terminal.
Ideal candidates bring at least 2 years of hospitality or ferry industry experience, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work flexible shifts. Physical capability and comfort with technology are essential. From Dock to Deck —your journey onboard begins here!
Brand Ambassador
As a Brand Ambassador you’ll be the face of Hullo, delivering exceptional guest experiences across various shifts. You’ll assist with high-volume terminal traffic, support the Guest Experience team with line management and mooring, handle boarding and
luggage, maintain terminal cleanliness, restock refreshments, and manage parking flow—all while ensuring a calm, organized, and welcoming environment.
